Good Morning Soap Cozy

Crochet Pattern by It's Britt's Knits

A division of Brittique

#GoodMorningSoapCozy

-The Good Morning Soap Cozy is a free crochet pattern for a surprisingly soft but exfoliating soap cozy. It's the perfect size for a standard bar of soap but can easily be sized up or down for more unique shapes. The soap saver utilizes all the little ends and broken pieces from old bars of soap.

Materials:

Yarn:   Sugar'n Cream yarn- 100% cotton Medium Weight #4; also referred to as Aran, Worsted or Afghan weight Why 100% cotton? It's a natural fiber that can withstand plenty of scrubbing. The more it's washed (or used in the shower) the softer it gets. It's absorbent, but breathable, which means it's great for holding suds but dries quickly.

Red Heart Scrubby Yarn- This unique polyester yarn has tiny twists and texture for ultimate scrubbing and exfoliating while still feeling super soft on the skin.

Stitches Used:
sl st- slip stitch

ch-chain

sc- single crochet
scblo- single crochet back loop only (single crochet, but only into
the back loop of the previous row, rather than both loops of the stitch.

hdc- half double crochet

dc- double crochet

Soap Cozy:

Using K hook

Foundation: ch6 (6st)

1. sc in the 2nd chain from the hook, and into each of the next 3 stitches. 3sc in the last stitch. (7st)

2. sc into each of the next 5 stitches (5st)

3. scblo 12x, sc (13st)

4-9. sc 12x (12st)

Note that the previous line applies to rows 4 through 9. That's 6 rows of 12 single crochets. 72 total stitches. (73 including the one from round 3). This is where the stitch markers come in handy.

10. sl st. ch3, dc in the next stitch, and into each of the next 10. sl st. (14st)

Weave in the ends and then turn your work inside out. I've learned when working with scrubby yarn, eyelash yarn, and other highly textured fibers, most of the textured parts tend to get stuck on the 'wrong side'. Turning your work inside out will put more 'scrubbies' on the outside.

Drawstring:

Using F hook and only cotton yarn

Foundation: ch55 (55st)

Cut yarn. Sl st.

Weave yarn through the posts of the double crochets in the soap cozy.

Wrap the chained yarn over itself into a very loose knot around the soap cozy.

Tie the loose ends of the yarn together in a double knot. Weave the loose ends into the chains.

There are other ways to do the drawstring, but this allows easy opening and closing, while offering a way to hand the soap cozy in the shower.

I recommend squeezing out excess water after each use and making sure it's exposed to plenty of air. Between bars of soap, machine wash the soap saver and let it dry flat. These work up super quickly and make great gifts. I plan on making matching washcloths, so be sure to subscribe for updates!
